Stars and cars go hand in hand. The super-rich soccer players of today have extravagant car collections. David Beckham is certainly no exception; the Beckham car collection has included the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Aston Martin, Porsche and the now requisite Hummer.
In the early days of his career in Manchester he drove a BMW M3. But Beckham’s car collection advanced rapidly as did his soccer reputation. In 2005 he famously turned down an offer of a free Ferrari from Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo, Beckham’s reason being that he already had one.
Here are some of the cars David Beckham has had, or still has, in his collection.
David Beckham Car Collection: Bentley Arnage T
In 2003 Beckham went to Buckingham Palace to pick up his OBE from the Queen. He went in his $312,000 (£166,000) Bentley Arnage. Beckham had his Bentley fitted with an expensive array of extras. These include vanity mirrors mounted on the roof, an Alpine stereo system with sub-woofers, and leather child seats embroidered with his son’s name, Brooklyn.
Beckham’s Bentley Arnage T is powered by a 6.75-litre V8 engine equipped with two turbochargers. At a bulky two and a half tonnes the Arnage still has a top speed of 175mph. The Arnage has not accompanied Beckham on his travels, and not so long ago was listed for sale on Auto Trader.
David Beckham and Ferrari
In 2001 Beckham could be seen out and about in Manchester in his custom built Ferrari 360 Spider. Later Beckham bought himself a Ferrari F430 and then a Ferrari F550. Turning down the Ferrari chairman’s offer of a free Ferrari begins to look more reasonable considering the Ferraris already present in the Beckham car collection.
David Beckham’s latest Ferrari purchase was the Ferrari 550 Maranello. Going from 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds and with a top speed of 199mph, the Maranello is in the premier league of cars and stars.
David Beckham Car Collection: Lamborghini Gallardo
While still playing for Manchester United, Beckham put in an order for a Lamborghini Murcielago. However, Beckham’s transfer from Manchester to Real Madrid put the order on hold, with Beckham eventually deciding not to take it.
In 2006 Beckham finally got his Lamborghini, settling for a $206,400 (£120,000) Lamborghini Gallardo. The Italian supercar has a top speed of 192mph and hits 60mph in just 4.2 seconds. The Gallardo is powered by a 5-liter engine producing 500bhp, always getting Beckham to the tattoo parlor in time.
David Beckham Car Collection: Aston Martin
David Beckham has bought both an Aston Martin V8 and an Aston Martin DB7. The DB7 had the added touch of a personalized registration plate marked ‘DB7’, both a reference to the car itself and the owner’s initials and shirt number.
David Beckham’s car collecting reputation has also made him one of the favorites to be the first celebrity to buy the new two million dollar Aston Martin One-77. With only 77 being produced, and delivery being made in October 2009, Beckham needs to move quickly if he hasn’t secured one already....
Big Cars and Stars: David Beckham’s Hummer, Lincoln Navigator and BMW X5
A family man also needs some big cars with space enough for the kids. At nearly three tons a Hummer H2 may be slight over-kill, but what self-respecting superstar doesn’t own a blacked-out Hummer? Likewise, Beckham’s Lincoln Navigator is a ‘cars and stars’ classic; Beckham’s Californian-based best friend P Diddy owning one himself.
After Beckham’s son Brooklyn was at the center of a kidnapping scare, Beckham bought a customized armor-plated BMW X5. Used more often by the Beckham family bodyguards, the BMW X5 was bought with security in mind, and was later stolen. An X5 spotted being used by government officials in Macedonia in 2007 was alleged to be Beckham’s. A police spokeswoman said there was no proof for the claims.
The most recent addition to the Beckham car collection is a customized Range Rover Sport. Sticking with his taste for black cars with tinted windows, Beckham has been seen out and about in his new acquisition since October 2009.
David Beckham Car Collection: The List Goes On....
The above is only a selection of the cars Beckham has owned. Changing cars as often as hairstyles, Beckham has worked his way through many different makes and models. Beckham likes his pick-ups and Jeeps as much as his Ferraris and Bentleys.
He also buys cars for his wife Victoria and custom made miniature versions for his children. Brooklyn already has a £6,000 miniature Porsche, a gift for his sixth birthday. The Beckham car buying legacy looks set to continue.
